Abstract
Christian reform movements in the 15th and 16th centuries were not limited to revolutionary and radical reforms in Germany and Switzerland. There were also important reforms in the Church of England, out of which Anglicanism and the Puritans emerged. Fundamental reforms also took place in the Roman Catholic Church, some in response to Protestant protests, and some of them had nothing to do with the Protestant Reformation movement. Through these various reforming movements the Christian Church progressed across Europe and once again – this fragmentation created various sects that spread throughout the Western world. At the end of the 17th century, the religious and political unity of Western Christianity was destroyed forever. There were now thousands of Christian churches and denominations scattered across Europe, including Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Anabaptists, Puritans, Baptists, and Quakers. Representatives of each of these groups eventually traveled to America and played an important role in the religious and political history of their religions
